Scheduled Surgery

American Soldier says,

I will go under the knife the 3rd week of September. I cannot begin to tell you how nervous I am. Here I am this big bad Soldier and I am actually fearing this procedural surgery. Well not so procedure, they have to essentially rebuild my shoulder.

More later.

    Hi AS,

You have been looking forward to shoulder repair for months, and now just like any other human being are beginning to sweat as the time counts down. Take comfort in the fact that after your surgery (and the inevitable couple of months of PT) you will have full mobility with no pain. THAT is something to anticipate!

Take the time to strengthen your muscles around your shoulder before surgery, and follow your PT regime post surgery, for you don’t want scar tissue to form that may inhibit your range of motion.

All will be well —- honest!

  2. Lenore Says:

Good luck with your surgery. And just so you know my husband, big, tough, Harley guy, ex army, is afraid of needles.

  3. Richmond Says:

    My prayers are with you…..

Hang in there, maybe close your eyes, look at the bright side, at least I don’t tell you to suck it up Marine

    AS,
I think anyone is nervous when they have to have surgery. Just think of the benefits of the surgery when your shoulder is healed. The doctors are trained to do this and I’m sure they do this surgery often.

Anyway, I will pray for you that everything will be fine and for the Lord to steady those nerves!! He works wonders!!

    Take care!

  7. American Soldier Says:

    Sean,

Yes very true! However I have my wife telling me to suck it up!

  8. BoB Says:

I think YOU are the one who should be telling your wife to suck it up !!! :-) )))

  9. Monica Says:

    AS,
Thoughts and prayers will be with you. Take care.

Will (as always) be keeping y’all in prayer!!! I can’t blame you for being real nervous ~ that type of surgery is a pretty big deal. {{{{{{{{MORE HUGS}}}}}}}} Just remember ~ you and Mrs. AS and Baby A.S. are all SURROUNDED by the prayers of many, many people ~ possibly even HUNDREDS, considerinig how many people read your blog! We are ALL standing with you as you go through this, and we are all keepiing y’all close in thought and prayer, and will continue to do so as you walke through this next journey. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! BTW… have you heard of Capt. Daniel Gade? He is INCREDIBLY inspiring!!!!!!!! Here’s a link to his website: http://www2.caringbridge.org/dc/danielgade/ In January, Capt. Gade was nearly killed by an IED ~ he lost his whole left (? or was it right) leg. Now, he’s doing GREAT!!! In the current post, he was talking about how he recently went to Colorado to welcome his troops home, as they returned from Iraq. If you have the time, go back through the archives and start at day one… I did, and his story will blow you away. Any time I need some extra courage… I think of him! :-) Please, please, please don’t take that as a “it could be worse” speil, cuz that’s NOT what I’m saying ~ what you are going through is very real, and very difficult and will be a high mountain to climb. But I’ve always found it helps to look at other individuals who have overcome big obstacles, too… it keeps me going and encourages me… “If they can do it, so can i!”

Anyway, we love y’all and are praying for y’all!

PS…will Mrs. A.S. or someone else be keeping us posted on how your surgery goes? I imagine typing might be a little difficult for you at first?!

I am just back from surgery myself, a different type but it goes along with the nervousness. It is the the unknown AS that got to me. I didn’t know how much pain I would have nor the way I would “appear” to others. I wanted to be strong in front of my sons so they wouldn’t worry. I was better then even I gave me credit for. I was worried for nothing, I did great as I am sure you will.
You just know we all are praying for you.

  14. eversman Says:

good luck with the surgery. im sure you are in pretty good physical conditioning so thatll help. but be confident. when you get done, do EXACTLY what they tell you for PT and recovery. do not overdo it or skip anything no matter how minor. you will be alright and i wish you a speedy recovery. fear not, there are a lot of people who will say a prayer and wish you a speedy full recovery.

    Dear AS,

First, Thank You. Second, take every bit of instruction and physcal pre-hab and re-hab that is offered to you. My husband had his knee repaired in Germany, Landstuhl hospital and it has gone great! Do yourself a big favor and use your pain meds. You can heal quicker emotionally if you rest. You cannot rest in pain. It’s hard work but not the hardest you’ve seen. Your blog is to be admired and I do. My other half is currently “over there”. I am a very PROUD service wife. I am proud of you. Please keep writing and God’s prayers be with you. Consider a hug from my family to you as well.

  16. Sherri Says:

Thank you for your service and good luck on your surgery. From someone who’s had more than one of the major variety, my fear was always worse than it needed to be. Knowing that, it still surfaces every single time. Just do what they tell you to afterwards. Good advice from someone who didn’t take direction well and paid the price  .

  17. Rain Says:

Why are they saying you need surgery on your shoulder? I am asking because I have had several surgeries that could have been avoided with the right therapies.
