Piss poor coverage of the War!

American Soldier says,

I have been doing some catch up on the news. I will say that the media here in the United States is piss poor. Why is it that the MSM’s report Baghdad as being the war? Shit doesn’t even really go on there. There are far worse places in Iraq that have story’s that would blow one’s mind if they knew. Where I was at, I hardly EVER saw reporters there. Heck we didn’t even get USO people there. Simply put, they were scared to be there. At least in Baghdad you could be behind 2 miles of heavily fortified protection.

I know my boys back in the ‘raq’ are fully engaged on a daily basis and I haven’t read a single blurb about the good things they have been doing.

Other than being engaged and fucking the enemy up, we did great things as well. We enabled kids to go to school, we protected children along certain routes, etc, etc. If the media only knew what these big bad killing machine US Soldiers really did? Could they possibly show compassion or not shoot someone? It’s always about the bad or Baghdad!

There is only one news channel out there that gets it and even then they don’t report enough of the ‘’good stuff'’. If it wasen’t for computers we would be really behind a black curtin for news coverage of what is happening in the real world, THEY just don’t get it and they never will until a very liberal administration gets into the white house,,,,,that is the answer ! They do not care to be truthful reporters because they do not want this President to be a sucessful one, so any thing they can do to ‘’Poison the well”" will be done. Even at the expence of our military, and their families………..The hatred of our president was very boldly displayed by Helen Thomas at a recent news briefing by her questions, or were her questions so arrogant because she is of Arab decent? Just check the motives of the questioners and who they represent.

  2. Kat in GA Says:

**SIGH** Somehow, I’m not surprised. grrr…… Thank God for milblogs!!!!!!

We’re awfully proud of you, A.S. and all you’ve done for us - including keeping us posted on “the rest of the story.”

God bless, have a great sunday,

  3. Green Bay Pat Says:

I try telling my 81yo WW2 vet dad he’s not getting the whole picture watching broadcast news, but he’s stubborn and won’t listen to me. He thinks it a big clusterf— and Bush is an idiot. At least my mom gets it. (She can’t change his mind either.)

That’s why blog like yours are so important. God bless you and send healing vibes to you.

  4. ~K Says:

Caneholder has it right. I agree with that comment. The Reporters feel “safe” in Baghdad, and they don’t have any news to report that hasn’t already been overly used. Not worth my time to watch anymore. They are destroying any good that is being done. They are hurting the image of America in Americans Eyes. What good is that doing for anyone? Sometimes I just want to shake them awake. Take their blinders off. Show them there is more then the tunnel vision they are used to. They are hurting America more than GW ever has. When are they going to realize this? (Hopefully before it is to late.)

  5. Chad Says:

The bastards behind the MSM will always do all they can to paint a real ugly picture on this war against terrorism. They are crippling our country for a dime and to further their agenda.

  6. Liz Says:

A.S. Thank you for sharing with us. You are a good person and you open peoples eyes about whats really going on over there.

    Have a Good Week,
    Liz

  7. steve Says:

I once heard Gore Vidal say that when he served in World War 2 he never heard a single patriotic word from the troops he served with. My memory of that era was 2 vets being returned crippled themselves hoping to avoid a second tour. They were both jailed for dereliction of duty. Another black kid who had served aboard the Lexington even shot himself with a tracer bullet crippling himself for life. I am therefore pleased to read all the support from some troops now deployed in Iraq. Reports here say the troops there support Bush and the war at the 85% level. An equal number believe Saddam attacked us on 9-11 which is the view according to Richard Clark of most of those whose primary source of news in Fox News. If these stats are correct that means 25% of the troops neither support the war nor President Bush which means they should be allowed to return home ASAP and the other groups tours extended as nobody should be working or serving in any job or profession if he/she is unhappy doing so. Also please assign some army recruiters to these pro-war get togethers to take advantage of those most exuberant for the war.

  8. Sean Says:

Thats why Blogs are so important. They are the only real source of news. Thanks for telling us what is really going on.

  9. Jim Says:

Gotta be discouraging but keep up the good fight and hope the word gets around. I’m going to cut and paste the main part of “Piss Poor” and send it to 50 or 60 on my list. If everyone did that maybe more would get the word.
Hope everyone in the military understands that reporters, no matter how friendly, are not your friends.
    Muddle on

  10. ~Michie D Says:

I hear you loud and clear! I don’t even watch the news on the war anymore because it is so wrong! I thank you so much for everything you did and everything that all the soldiers that are still there do. You are all in my prayers!!!!

  11. Gypsy Says:

MSM is a waste…their agendas make most of the people I know sick to their stomach, AS. I’m so glad we have all of the MILbloggers to get the real deal from those on the ground.

You are in my continued prayers for your recovery.

  12. kbug Says:

What happened to the reporters being imbedded with the different military units in Iraq……have they all lost their nerve? Don’t any of them have the guts that our troops have? It’s okay for the troops to risk their lives but not for the media?? Bulls**t!!! I’m glad you’re back at blogging again……heal quickly.

  13. HeadShot Says:

Did you expect anything different from the liberal media?

  14. EdoRiver Says:

There’s nothing new in the comments here that you can’t find or even remember , if you’re old enough  from the Civil War to now. My sister wrote her PhD. on the social reaction (especially in the south) to the Civil War, and the comments here and your perception could fit right in with that time and place. Its just our human nature. “We” are almost never wrong, about important matters; and “they” almost always are. Having said that and understand that I have just as many or more weaknesses than anyone commenting here, I would just try to keep an open mind…try to keep the door open at least a little. Just in case you run across (but not down  ) a person who works for “the media”. It’s a job, man, just like yours, just like mine. It can be performed with reverence and dedication as a form of worship, or it can be something else….I would recon that those folks, just like me and you, have their good days and their bad ones…and probably just like you and me…they pretty much even out in the end of time. JMO. God Bless (even the liberal-white-middle-class-New-York-biased-big-business-multinational-Corporations
which, I push my daughters to study hard in school so they can get a job there ;-)

  15. Justin Says:

fuck yeah man. the liberal bastards. i hate being the only one in my high school who knows the truth. im in the army as well. i have not gone yet, but i leave july 6th to fort lenardwood. i plan on being an mp, and i want to go to iraq. i wanted to go because i want to support a country that is free. we are the greatest nation on earth, and i want to keep it that way. ever since 9/11 i’ve been hard up fuck iraqies. our media gives everyone only what they want people to hear. they dont like bush, so hurting the reputation of the guys that are out there fighting for us doesnt matter. i wish the liberal fucks would put themselves out on the line, but all they can do is sit behind their desks and bitch moan and complain.

  16. Tony Says:

Good news doesn’t sell, only bad. It doesn’t surprise me about the media. The colleges are churning out liberal journalist who were instructed by liberal professors. Remember we control the purse strings by not buying their crap. Thanks AS for your service. We will be praying for you.

  17. Wild Thing Says:

Those of us thet love, respect and appreciate our awesome military know in our hearts and minds that good things are not being reported and that there are tons of good things being done that are fantastic. If it were not for the internet and Military blogs we would not be able to comment back to you and others and say a huge thank you. The media even the sort of ok one like Fox is still a tremendous disappointment. They always will be….grrrrr.

I hate these people that just don’t get why they are free and that it is not some idiotic media or teacher or politician that gave them their freedom. They are traitors to this country.

Thank you for serving, thank you with all my heart and please tell your guys still back in Iraq that they are so very much appreciated. And we know, we do know with all that is in us the sacrifices they make for all of us back here, that they face danger like we never had to face and they do it on a daily basis, and the good things they do. Thank you

LIBERAL: fAVORING PROGRESS AND REFORM, AS IN POLITICS, RELIGION, OPEN MINDED, OR TOLERANT, CHARACTERIZED BY GNEROSITY AND WILLINGNESS TO GIVE. THIS IS ME, I HEAR ALL THE SLOP ABOUT LIBERALS, AND THOSE COMMENTS DID NOT REFER TO ME. I LOOKED IT UP, THIS IS ME. IF ALL FELT THIS WAY WOULDN,T WE BE BETTER OFF. IF YOU ARE NOT THIS THAN YOU BELIEVE IN STEALING, KILLING, NOT SERVING YOUR COUNTRY, NO CONCERN FOR THE WEEK AND DISADVANTAGED. DO NOT BELIEVE IN ABORTION, BUT YOU DON’T CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO THIS CHILD AFTER ITS BORN.

  19. DagneyT Says:

Phyllis, you’re yelling. It’s not welcome here. Go visit the Daily Kos, or other loopy sites of the same ilk. The very least you could do is learn to spell. You folks, with MSM, like to believe our soldiers enlisted because they had no other choice in life. I think they got that backwards, it’s you folks who have no choice but to be stupid! hint, “week” means 7 days. “weak” means not strong.

AS, I’m so sorry to hear you were wounded. I’m happy to hear, however, that you’re keeping track of your guys. Thanks for keeping us up to date. May God’s Light surround you and heal you soon.

  20. fightaholic Says:

I know how you feel about the media only portraying the bad things that are going on in Bagdad. I deal with it every day in school. You have these liberal know-nothings that complain about President Bush and how the war is terrible, and how we have lost sooo many soldiers. But if they could just hear about what you guys are really doing there, and that you are not just there to be bullys, im positive that their views would change. i say we do something about this piss poor media coverage and show the American public what is really going on.

  21. Robert Says:

The problem here is not only the MSM but the lack of blogs such as this one, If more people heard about the good things from the common soldier on the ground, Things would turn around. As far as these morons from the left that insist on commenting here about how they feel the war is wrong. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE, Not to a soldier that risked his life so you can show the world your ignorance. Not to any military man or woman, that had the desire to VOLUNTEER his time/Life for his country. This is not an easy decision to make, My son is going in and god willing he will be serving with Men such as the author of this blog.
The least the liberal morons can do is shut the fuck up. or if they must speak say; thank you, while in the presence of a soldier. Thats it. nothing about your political views. Just THANK YOU.

  22. Julie Says:

Hey, we know..we know. thats why we read you. The truth will prevail. Ronald Regan had a worse time than Bush because he wanted to “Tear That Wall Down.” The media hated him, you were nuts if you supported him.

OK, enough about my age. Hang in there. In the future your blog will be read, not some old liberal rag.

  23. Donna Says:

I am sick of most of the media and the way they tell the “news”! All they are interested in is the blood and guts of Iraq and not the good things happening like you were talking about AS.

I know that the majority of our soldiers are good, kind hearted men and women. They wouldn’t be over in Iraq right now if we were not attacked on 9-11. I know that Saddam was in with the terrorists and even if he wasn’t we had ample cause to rock his world and put him out of business!

I’m sooo thankful for blogs like yours AS. Thank you for writing the truth in your posts about Iraq. I visit your blog everyday and I thoroughly enjoy it! Please keep up the good posts and “Get Well Soon”!
You are in our thoughts and prayers!!

  24. Soldiers Angel CJ Says:

Just adding my voice of disgust for our media and its portrayal of things. I am so glad we have blogs like yours AS!!! I’m sorry that things ‘over there’ are not being reported properly. Its a disservice to those of you who work so hard and give so much. Never forget how proud we are of all of you!!!!!

  25. Pieta Says:

    AS -

Thank you so much for your gutsy and so effective manning, together with your gallant brethren, of the front lines of our counterwar against the IslamoFascists who so rabidly want to take America down.

We honor you and salute your dedication and bravery, and wish you a full and quick recovery, as well as a wonderful reunion time with Mrs. AS. May you live, love and laugh together for decades to

  26. anon Says:

I just wanted to say i completely agree with the above blog. The MSM has a major problem reporting anything good, typically about anything. With Iraqi Liberation Day coming up, i hope they can stand with in respectful for our soldiers sacrifice and commitment, even if it be for just a day.

A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention.

  28. peacemonger Says:

Many of you complain about the ‘liberal’ media and specifically Helen Thomas. She is about the only prominent journalist that is against the war. What is the evidence that the media is liberal? Are they more liberal than the American people, who are now against this war? Maybe you folks need a new people. Try moving to Belarus or Russia, they have the kind of media you would like. By the way, how many Iraqis must die before you are satisfied? 1 million, 2, or do all 25M or so have to be exterminated before you feel avenged? Try gas chambers, they speed up the process. Also, any opinions on whether we should attack Saudi Arabia or Pakistan, who are the real supporters of Al Quaida. Bush should be impeached, tried for war crimes, and hung in public in front of the Capitol

  29. Chad Says:

You’re in the wrong place, boy. You said your piece, nobody cares… now move on.

  30. Robert F. Says:

I have overcome the stares I get when I go into classes full of 18 to 23 year old kids here at the University of Arizona. I am a gray haired, 54 years young, grandfather Army Reservist. Most of these kids want to know what part of Vietnam I served in.

I can’t over come all of their ignorance in just half a semester. I lost my left arm above the elbow and my left leg below the knee in Mosul in October 2004. The young soldiers that I have know over the years are not much different than my fellow students. They are just more realistic and mature beyond their years.

These students for the most part are victims of not only the media, but of a national education system where over 80% of all educators(?) identify themselves as Liberal. a recent Zogby poll indictes that over 94% of all college professors identify themselves as Liberal. Add to this the total feminsation of the education field(over 92%) and its no wonder so many young people dont have anything but a liberal view of the world.

I’ve found that by actually talking to these young people about facts and on ground expirences will really open their eyes.

I challenge all former soldiers who can see the objective, to consider a future career in education. We have to start a movement of conservative educators to reach America’s youth at a young age, so atleast they will have a chance to have more than just the MSN, CBS, CNN, NEA point of view.

I’ve got to go now gotta get to my Spanish class so I stand a chance of getting hired at an American Elementary school next year.

  31. teacher Says:

It is nice that the children can be taught by a war criminal. Could you please name the school so I can ensure my kids don’t go there? If the media and schools are so liberal, how come a retarded fascist draft dodger can get elected President?

  32. American Soldier Says:

A war criminal? hey teach….go fuck yourself! It’s obvious that you don’t appreciate men who have sacrificed their bodys to give you the right to not give a shit.

  33. Chad Says:

Thats right, teach. hide behind the internet, with your bad mouthing. Worthless puke. Sorry excuse for an human being, is what you are.

  34. Sherri Says:

    RE: Robert

Thank You Sir for your service, both in and out of the Armed Forces.

    RE teach:

In answer to your question, “If the media and schools are so liberal, how come a retarded fascist draft dodger can get elected President?” I have no idea. I have always wondered how Clinton got elected, after all he was the draft dodger.

  35. Rebecca Says:

Robert - You would be an asset to any school. I would be grateful to have you as a teacher of any one of my 4 children. People who would be so disrespectful of someone who gave 2 limbs to ensure the right for them to run their mouth like an ignoramus shouldn’t be the ones teaching our country’s children. THANK YOU for your sacrifices and service to our country!!!

And “teacher” you are a disgrace to your profession. You won’t be convincing anyone including my kids by your rude behavior. They are raised to think for themselves and have the manners to disagree with RESPECT if they don’t agree with another persons point of view. Perhaps you should take an Ettiquite class, you obviously need one!

  36. Julie Says:

    teach,

You are a shinning sick example of whats wrong with this world. Do you get off badmouthing the very same people who give you the freedom to be a dickhead? You are a wimp.

Homeschooling..the only answer, unless you want your boys to grow up to be pansies like teach.

  38. Karin in TX Says:

I must add my two cents here: I am a Soldiers Angel who adopted several heroes as well as serves on several teams–it has been THE most humbling, enriching experience of my life..I am also a special education teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience and I have NEVER been a liberal as well as know several teachers who are not as well. Furthermore my students write to my soldiers and my soldiers have kindly in all their busy days written back and sent pictures etc to my boys (I have a class of all boys and one girl). I think that it’s important for them to know who the TRUE heros are and all who serve are the true heros!!! I have a whole Soldier Wall in my classroom and I have had MANY a parent as well as top administrators stop by to look at it and thank me for enriching the lives of the special ed. students (who most don’t pay attention to anyway) by allowing them the real life experience of corresponding with soldiers.
So to all who so unselfishly serve I say thank you and to their familes a thank you as well for your sacrifices. You are all in my prayers!

  39. Markgm Says:

The media has been making a point of the number of reporters who have been killed in Iraq, last I knew over 100. I don’t know what to compare that to, but I am curious about this, because what I also hear in the news is that the bad guys are targeting them. Even to the point of locating journalists/reporters, going into where they stay, and dragging them out and assassinating them.

There are also endless reports of Iraqi security forces being targeted. (Also, that they are often the derelicts and simply signing up for the pay) Based upon your experience, who are the targets over there? What of these things do you see as true?

One last thing. A friend tells me news from Iraq that the matter has been reduced for Iraqis that they have formed militias in (some) cities on a neighborhood basis, and enforcing their own laws. Have you seen anything like this?

The Future of Iraq Project (produced by the state dept back when this war began) was too much ignored, and it was a $5mil study - the best of research on what to expect would unfold there. At the top of their list was corruption - lots and lots of corruption. Even the bodies flowing through the Baghdad morgue were, by reporting I’ve seen, half combat-related, and half the product of common crimes. What do you think of the crime and the corruption there? More directly, what do you think of upholding law there? How is it going on the matter of a sense of law or law enforcement?

Sincerely curious about what you have to say. - Markgm

    AS and wife,

When you get this, click over to my blog. www.scrollsquirrel.blogspot.com

    Or go here: www.agreaterfreedom.com

Sara Horn is doing another non-fiction book….her first one was A Greater Freedom with Oliver North. I write for this website, and may want to interview you and your wife.

Sara’s second book is also similar, and I believe her focus is on soldiers wounded in Iraq. I’m not sure if she still needs stories for her current book or not, but I am sure she would love to hear your stories of the things you guys did that mainstream media doesn’t show.

Praying for your recovery on all levels. My father went through this after Vietnam, so I empathize.

    Blessings,
