I appreciate them selecting this piece. It was one of my most memorable experiences.

NPR emailed me and will be talking about this on their program - Day to Day. I don’t have a confirmed time. If you listen to the network, please let me know.

NPR (Seattle’s KUOW) just read the story on air — around 12:10 pm PST.

I’m a student in High School where we are making our own blogs in English class. One of our assignments was to read one of your posts and comment on it. I found your story quite interesting, happy and sad all at once. I though it was neat that you met that other solider again after he helped you while you were wounded. I also felt happy when I read about his military experience “coming full circle” when he met you. Finally I felt feeling of sadness when you said that the other solider met his daughter for the first time the previous day. I think it is terrible that the solider had to miss his daughter’s birth, and her beginning months. Overall, thank you for sharing that story because it’s a good one.
P.S. My mom listens to NPR in the morning (7-8) so I catch some of it.

That is an amazing story! I think that’s awesome that you were able to meet one of the men that has inluenced your life dramatically. Your story is touching and slightly ironic. I enjoyed reading your experience!

hey, i’m a student in High school and i feel comforted by this story because my brother is thinking about joining the army, and i want him to have as good of an experience as you did. i think you probably had just as much of an influence on the chief’s life as he had on yours, and i hope my brother has a similar experience (if he chooses to go that way).
