A day in the life of an American Soldier. The personal passages of everything from family life to war.

MSM Sharks and the War!

American Soldier says,

On 9/8/04 I made a post about the 1000th person killed in Iraq. I was pissed and ranted about it and how the media were like sharks swimming around a piece of meat.

So now a little over a year later, another 1000 soldiers have just about perished in this war. The biggest headline is this hurricane, here, here & here. Seems that is the only thing of interest coming from the MSM.

However there were some other important pieces of news about the war today. As of today there is 1998 American soldiers who have died.

There was a significant attack on the Palestine Hotel that killed over 20 people. These are not confirmed numbers.

The Iraqi constitution votes are still being counted. Seems there is some opposition coming from the Sunni’s. Seems they fear that the Shiites and Kurds are going to gain too much power as a result of this constitution.

So if the MSN won’t post it, then I will. I mean we all can’t be sharks in this pool can we? Mind you, I had to do some digging to find news about Iraq today with the exception of Foxnews.

CNN - Gotta love em!

American Soldier says,

So I was reading a headline on cnn.com this morning. Apparently they claim US Soldier’s burned the body’s of Taliban fighters. Hmm doesn’t war suck!? Wait, wasn’t it just about 4 years ago those ass-hats flew 2 planes into the WTC towers and killed a whole bunch of people?

Oh wait, we have to be compassionate towards terrorists now? Ummm, no! Terrorists don’t need to be treated like soldiers in an Army. They don’t fall under the Geneva Convention rules. So I wonder why CNN posts a news story. Well I can sum that up and answer my own question. It’s news and that’s what they are supposed to do.

It’s actually came from the AP. However, you won’t be finding this kind of crap on Fox news!!

First day back to work

American Soldier says,

Today was my first day back to work in over 3 weeks. I drove in and it felt so different. I had been home for over a week but something about was off. I got in and found my way to my office. Turned on my computers and began my day. For about an hour I sat there completely unproductive. I sorted through about 150 emails. I quickly made a mental note to add an out of office note the next time I go away. Then I thought about a Soldier who was in my last unit. Before the unit was getting ready to go, I took this kid under my wing. If you all remember a soldier who I made a post about earlier this year.

Well he was seriously injured in Iraq about a month ago. He is apparently at Walter Reed now. I want to make the trip to see him. It’s a matter of trying to find out what room he is in.

I’ve been haunted by his injury because this kid has potential. Even though he made a young mistake, he had the drive and courage to push through it.

So there I sat thinking about the kid and how I wish I could be there for him. Then I got distracted by some subtle conversation about New Orleans any my experience down there. The person I was talking to was going to be heading that way next month for some church thing. I just kept telling him to get use to people trying to take advantage and ask for too much. I’m sorry but a lot of the people dealt with there were assholes, lazy and greedy! There were the exceptional few but people literally demanded the food out of your rucksack.

The rest of the day was answering emails and making phone calls. The day was really boring but I made it through it. I got in my car in the late afternoon and aimed north. I made a stop to get a haircut and all was good.
